Docket page check: privacy

Docket page check is a free Chrome extension from Kerr & Company. It checks the web page you are looking at for the SEO basics and shows the result in a small window. This page says what it can see, what it sends and what it asks Chrome for. The privacy policy for the Docket app and for this website is here.

What it sends

Nothing to us and nothing to anyone else. The checking happens inside your browser, on the page you opened it on. There is no account, no sign-in, no analytics, no crash reporting and no advertising in it, and it stores nothing on your computer.

It makes one network request. When you open it on a page, it asks that same site for its own /llms.txt file, without cookies, to say whether the site has one. The request goes to the site you are already on, as any visitor's would, and carries what any request carries, such as your IP address and your browser's usual headers. Nothing about the page is sent anywhere.

What it reads

Only when you click its icon, and only the page that tab is showing: the title, the meta description, the headings, the canonical link, the robots meta tag, structured data, Open Graph tags, the alt attributes of images, hreflang links, and whether the site has an llms.txt. It reads them to work out the result, and the result stays in the window until you close it. The text of the page is not copied, saved or sent.

What it asks Chrome for

It does not ask for access to all sites, your browsing history, your list of tabs, bookmarks, cookies or downloads.

The link to the whole-site audit

The window has a link, “Audit the whole site with Docket”. It opens the download page on this website in a new tab when you click it, and not before. The link carries a tag, utm_source=chrome-ext, so this website’s analytics can count that the visit came from the extension. What this website collects is in the privacy policy.
